About

Suite 646 is an independent New York magazine about style, nightlife, music, culture, art, and the people who keep the city awake.

We cover New York after dark. Not only the clubs and the late tables, though we love those, but the whole city as it looks once the day crowd goes home. The tailor still cutting at midnight. The gallery opening that starts at ten. The band on a basement stage. The chef cooking for other chefs after close. Even when a story happens in daylight, we tell it with the lights low.

What We Cover

Style. What New York wears when it goes out, and the designers, tailors, and makers behind it.

Nightlife. The rooms worth the wait, from new bars and clubs to the restaurants that stay open late.

Music. The sound of the city after hours, from the artists and venues to the records and residencies.

Culture. Film, theater, books, and the city's institutions, told from the back of the room.

Art. Studios, openings, and the work that stays with you.

People. Profiles of the New Yorkers everyone is watching, and the ones they should be.

How We Work

We report what we can confirm. Our reporting draws on sources we have read ourselves, and we link to them so you can read them too. We only quote people in their own published or spoken words, and we name where the words came from. When sources disagree, we say so or leave the detail out. We would rather be right than first.

Our look is black and white, grainy, and low light, like a mixtape cover left on the seat of a cab. Many of our photographs come from the photographers of Unsplash, credited by name on every image. Photographs made for a story are credited to the photographer who made them.

If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
