Black tie on a Monday is a big ask. Downtown, a sold-out room is answering it tonight.

The Angel Ball takes over Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, October 19. It is the black-tie benefit of Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, which funds work on leukemia, lymphoma and related blood cancers. The foundation's ticket page says the night is sold out, with prices listed from $2,000 to $100,000.

The honorees are a good reason to stand outside and watch the cars. Dionne Warwick, a six-time Grammy winner, and Lynda Carter, recognized for her philanthropy and for raising awareness of blood cancer research, are being honored alongside the entrepreneur and philanthropist Nicola Verses, according to Impact Wealth and Resident.

Who Is on the Bill

Deborah Cox, the Grammy and Tony nominated singer, hosts. Shaggy is set to perform. The foundation's own site promises live sets by Shaggy and Taylor Dayne, with DJ M.O.S and DJ Kiss playing the rest of the night. Star Jones and the oncologist Dr. Stephen D. Nimer are listed for special appearances.

Reggae, dance-floor pop and two screen and recording legends in one room is a starry mix for a Monday. It is also a familiar one for this crowd. Last year's ball, Resident reported, brought out Patti LaBelle and Ja Rule and honored Tina Knowles, and it raised $3 million.

The Reason for the Room

The ball carries a name for a reason. Gabrielle Rich Aouad, the daughter of the songwriter and philanthropist Denise Rich, died of acute myelogenous leukemia at 27. Her family started the foundation in her memory, and Resident dates its founding to 1996.

The foundation says it has awarded more than $47 million in research grants over nearly three decades. It also says 88 cents of every dollar it raises goes directly to research programs.

The run-up has been its own small season. Resident reported in late September that Denise Rich and her daughters Daniella Rich Kilstock and Ilona Rich Schachter had hosted a launch party at Le Bar Penelope, with Hilaria Baldwin and Melissa Gorga among the guests.

If You Are Not Inside

The ball is sold out and there are no physical tickets, so the guest list is set. If you want to be part of it anyway, the foundation is running an online art auction and a Charitybuzz auction alongside the night, according to its site.

Warwick and Carter are used to applause. Tonight it comes with a research budget attached. For another black-tie night where the dress code did some of the talking, see City Ballet's fall fashion gala.
