The room is below street level, and that is the point. Down the stairs at 254 West 54th Street, 54 Below keeps a supper club in the cellar, and from November it has David Yazbek on the calendar four times.

The composer and lyricist is booked for a residency at the cabaret, according to 54 Below's event page. It is billed as David Yazbek and His Angry Maronites. The first show is Monday, November 16. The last is Tuesday, May 4, 2027. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7.

The Four Dates

Each night has its own subject, which makes this less a run than a serial.

November 16 is a full-band set drawing on Dead Outlaw, his album Evil Monkey Man and new songs from a record still to come. On Monday, January 4, 2027, he plays the full cycle of songs from Dead Outlaw, with special guests. The venue's artist page lists that night as Dead Outlaw Redux.

Tuesday, March 2 celebrates a remastered deluxe reissue of Evil Monkey Man, again with guests. Tuesday, May 4 premieres songs from a forthcoming album called Silverback.

Each night has its own subject, which makes this less a run than a serial.

54 Below has not named the special guests for January or March. The venue notes that artists and acts are subject to change.

Who Is Onstage

Yazbek is joined by Erik Della Penna, Dean Sharenow and Brian Killeen. Della Penna wrote the music and lyrics of Dead Outlaw with him, and Sharenow produced Evil Monkey Man. The listing for the January show calls the musical a "true story about death, money, fame, and all the other things that make this country run."

Dead Outlaw earned seven Tony nominations in 2025, including best musical and best original score for Yazbek and Della Penna, as New York Theatre Guide reported. Yazbek already had a Tony at home. He won best original score in 2018 for The Band's Visit, after earlier nominations for The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. The venue's biography also lists Tootsie among his scores and notes that he recently signed with ECR Music Group's Meridian imprint for reissues and new releases, which explains the March and May dates.

He has played the room before. BroadwayWorld reported in 2021 that he and Della Penna would preview Dead Outlaw there with a full band on September 23 of that year, when the club was still called Feinstein's/54 Below. Now the songs come back to the cellar.
