First Hot Dog in the Bronx, Dua Lipa Takes In the Yankees

The pop star brings runway Chanel to a playoff night and ends up beside baseball's most famous superfan as the Rays finish a sweep

The lights over the Bronx are on and the season is running out. It is Wednesday night, October 7, Game 3 of the American League Division Series, and the Yankees are down two games to none against the Tampa Bay Rays. In the good seats, a woman in a burgundy croc-embossed coat is holding a condiment packet and smiling.

That was Dua Lipa, at Yankee Stadium with her husband, the actor Callum Turner. The man beside them was Laurence Leavy, the superfan famous for his bright orange Marlins jersey and visor and better known online as Marlins Man. He had no idea who they were.

The Superfan Who Didn't Know

Leavy posted about the night on X after the game, and People picked it up. He wrote that he had told them he knew sports, not music or movies, and that the couple were friendly to everyone around them.

"So i had no idea who this couple were and they were so nice and friendly to everyone," Leavy wrote.

He also shared photos, including a selfie with the pair. In one post he claimed it was Lipa's first baseball game and her first hot dog. Vogue and People both carried the detail. ESPN, replying to his post, called his picture the photo of the day.

Lipa is 31 and a three-time Grammy winner. Turner is 36. The couple married this summer, first in London and then with a larger celebration in Italy, according to Vogue. They have kept a relatively low profile as newlyweds. A playoff game in the Bronx is not low profile.

Chanel From the Subway

The coat was the point, at least for the fashion press. Elle reported that it came from Chanel's Métiers d'Art 2026 collection, a glossy burgundy leather piece with a croc-embossed finish and gold buttons stamped with the interlocking CC. Matthieu Blazy designed it, and it first appeared last December, when Chanel showed that collection inside a New York City subway station.

So a coat that debuted underground in New York came back up for air in the Bronx. Lipa wore it over a black top and jeans, with her hair down and a deep reddish-brown lip. Turner kept it simple in a cream ribbed zip-up sweater and jeans.

Lipa is a Chanel ambassador, and the Bronx was her second Chanel moment in a few days. Elle noted she had been in Paris for the house's spring 2027 show two days earlier. On Saturday, October 3, she also joined Shakira on stage in Madrid for an acoustic version of Antología, according to People. Then New York, and a ballpark.

It is a familiar kind of week in a familiar kind of New York fall, when a front row can be a runway one night and a ballpark the next. Earlier this week the West Side had its own version, with Florence Pugh fronting a car launch in West Chelsea.

A Night That Ended Early

In photos and a video shared by Major League Baseball, the couple stood to cheer and traded high fives with fans nearby, according to Elle. There was less to cheer by the end.

The Rays won 4 to 3 and swept the series. Victor Mesa Jr. hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Max Fried in the sixth inning, according to CBS New York. In the bottom of the inning, a fan reached over the left-field wall and caught an Anthony Volpe drive above Mesa's glove. A video review ruled it would not have left the park and turned the apparent two-run homer into an RBI double.

The Yankees, missing captain Aaron Judge to a calf strain, batted .130 in the series. It was the first time they had been swept in a best-of-five postseason series since the 1980 American League Championship Series against Kansas City. The Rays, who MLB.com reported sang and danced to Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind in the visiting clubhouse, now move on to the ALCS for the first time since 2020.

For the Yankees, the season ended that night. For one first-time fan in Chanel, it ended with a story. Her first game was a playoff game. Her first hot dog came in the Bronx. And the stranger beside her went home with what ESPN called the photo of the day.
